With Tassie ticked off, its time to start the plans for August.
I said to Jo where are we going for the next one – she came back with Binns…..
Thinking this was an instruction I stood up and headed out…Jo called out and said that sometimes I am dimmer than a 20 watt bulb. She meant that we were going to the NT and drive the Binns Track – the planning got underway!
In mid July we had the plan done and the camper packed and ready to go.
The best laid plans… We had a bit of an emergency to deal with so that meant that Binns Track is out for another year – no worries though, there is always something/somewhere else to do.
As it happens, one of our vans up at the northern rivers had served its time and needed to be picked up at the end of July. Its our oldest van (red on the outside) and didn’t fit the criteria anymore, and we were lucky enough that one of our newer vans did (Toni). It was a quick trip up to Pottsville for the changeover. We had to wait a day to change the vans over so we treated ourselves to a night in a safari tent in a local caravan park – won’t be doing that again! The van we picked up needed a good clean so we spent a few days at a caravan park in Pottsville doing the cleaning.
The caravan park at Pottsville was interesting with its light tower lighting up the whole park, you also get text messages telling you lock up everything at night. We waited for Schultz to go past… Add to that for the 3 days when we were there, the mobile phone and data service was almost zero, luckily we have roaming Starlink to get by with, very useful as we were spending a lot of time organising the business and some freight from Sydney.
We had a loose plan that if the old van was still ok, we would tour Queensland until the end of August, so we headed north, avoided Brisbane and stayed overnight at the Toowoomba showgrounds ($30). The other notable fact apart from the cold is that Toowoomba has 3 Bunnings in town!
From there it was through Dalby and as I type this we are sitting around the fire at Jandowae ($15) showgrounds for a couple of nights. Every town has a claim to fame, and this one has a few – but that’s for next time!
